is section just provides the sample size requirements, sample conditions should also be checked HERE.
PES3.2a has two photoemission experimental stations using the syncrotron radiation. PES is for angle-resolved photoemision, and XPS is for angle-integrated photoemission. Sample requirements are different for each station. Basically, XPS is opened for those who want to measure spectra on many samples including fine powders and large-size materials at room temperature. PES has a limited capacity of samples, but the in-situ heating and surface metal deposition are available.
Sample is mounted on the holder (see a drawing below) by silver adhensive paste, and loaded into the 6-axis cyro-cooled manipulator (Fermi instruments). Sample holder covered by thermal radiation shield can be cooled down to 18 K from RT for overnight. The Ar ion gun (3 keV) is also available for in-situ surface treatment.
Sample is mounted on the stainless plate of 28 mm x 94 mm x 2 mm (thickeness) sliding into home-developed sample transfer mechanism based on the manipulator: HPT x-y, z translator. Sample surfaces should be conductive by either silver adhensive (12686-15: Silver Conductive Adhesive 503) or epoxy (H21D). Powder samples are attached on carbon adhensive tape (6mm (width) x 20m, #05081). Samples loading duration is about 30 min., but it depends on your sample condition. For example, if samples are powder shape, it takes at least one hour for loading samples into analysis. The sample surface can be sputterd by 3-keV Ar ion at most in-situ prior to XPS. No in-situ sample heater is available. A sample drain current can also be measured as a XAS mode.

Pellets on carbon tapes.
Sample size is related to how many samples can be analyzed at once.
Sample is mounted on the holder described in the ARPES section, and slided into electron bombarding heater with Primary and Azimuthal Rotation: SH2 based on the manipulator: HPT. Sample size is limited within 8 (height) mm x 10 mm (width) x 1 mm (thickness). No cooling unit or sputtering gun for sample is available in MBE chamber, but the sample treatment and characterization are possible if sample is transferred to the SMOKE or ARPES chamber without disturbing beamline users.
