Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Public Organization) organized the 6th ASEAN Synchrotron Science Camp on November 27th - December 1st, 2017 at Faculty of Science, Kasetsart University , Bangkok and SLRI, Nakhon Ratchasima to provide students with hands-on science learning and a fun introductory to the world of synchrotrons as well as promote cooperating and networking among ASEAN countries. Over 80 participants from ASEAN countries and Thailand joined this camp throughout one-week program. Activities include lecture sessions on the overview of SLRI and specific technique of synchrotron by beamline scientists with special lectures by Dr. Daniel Hausermann from Australian Synchrotron under topic of “Why you should not build a Medical Beamline at the SLRI” and Assoc.Prof.Dr.Kittiwit Matan, Mahidol University in the “Applications of neutron scattering in the study of magnetic systems as well as experience sharing from students of CERN, DESY, and HGS-HIRe scholarship.
In workshop part, participants are divided into group to practice on each synchrotron techniques such as, the Secret of Sapphires, Microtomography of our skeleton: An inside look at bone, SAXS analysis of gold nanoparticle, Structural-related photovotaic property of titamium dioxide studied by X-Ray absorption spectroscopy and cyclic votammetry, Characterizes the diamond-like carbon (DLC) films by using XPS and NEXAFS techniques, Surface Analysis with Photoemission and Low Energy Electron Microscope, Synchrotron based FTIR microspectroscopy and its advantage, the study of the uptake and distribution of Zn element in bean sprout, Protein X-ray diffraction, Radio Frequency Technology for Accelerator, Magnet Technology และ SLRI Beam Test Facility. On final day, participants had presented the experience and impression derived from these practices.
