The 1st ASEAN Synchrotron Science School

             The Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Public Organization), SLRI, under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, located in Nakhon Ratchasima, will organize the 1st ASEAN Synchrotron Science School on 24 – 30 May 2020 at SLRI in Nakhon Ratchasima.

              Participants will gain knowledge and clear understanding of accelerator, and production and application of synchrotron radiation. In addition, participants will have a chance to visit beamlines and experimental stations to discuss their research topics of interest with SLRI scientists for future collaborations; some beamtime could be arranged accordingly.

 

Objectives:

             The 1st ASEAN Synchrotron Science School aims to provide students with hands-on science learning and an interesting introduction to the world of synchrotron. The camp is expected to help promote cooperation and create network among ASEAN countries.

 

Expected Participants:

  • 30 students from Thailand
  • 30 students from ASEAN countries

 

Date:   24 – 30 May 2020

 

Expected Outcomes:

  1. Participants gain knowledge and clear understanding of accelerator, production of synchrotron radiation, and application of synchrotron radiation.
  2. Participants get a chance to visit beamlines and experimental stations to discuss their research topics of interest with SLRI scientists for future collaborations, some beamtime could be arranged accordingly.
  3. Participants create collaboration network among themselves and also with SLRI team.

Applicant Qualification (in science and engineer)    

  • 3rd - 4th year undergraduate students 
  • Master degree students 
  • PhD students
  • Young researcher

Application’s requirement

  1. Copy of current transcript
  2. Copy of passport (ASEAN applicant) or a copy of ID card (Thai applicant)
  3. Recommendation letter (specify the applicant's qualification by their advisor)

Activities

  • Lectures on synchrotron techniques and accelerator
  • Visit to Siam Photon Laboratory (SPL) and hands-on experiments
  • Special talks by keynote and invited speakers from Diamond Light Source, United Kingdom, and other related facilities from ASEAN (countries), including Thailand.
