      Purpose & Scope of Workshop:

      The workshop is aimed for synchrotron users and scientists in Thailand and South East Asian Nations who are interested in X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS). Participants will learn the basic principles of XAS including X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) and Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS), practice on analysis and interprepation of XANES and EXAFS data. Application and perspectives in scientific research will be presented.

     The three-day program consists of overview of Siam Photon machine and beamlines, classroom lectures on XAS and IFEFFIT tutorial given by Dr. Bruce Ravel, a key developer of IFEFFIT analysis software, and his colleague.

     Participants are welcomed to join a panel discussion on on-going XAS research at SLRI and tour of Siam Photon Laboratory.

     There is no registration fee.


      Accommodation and financial supports:

     For accommodation and travel expenses, limited number of full or partial supports will be available upon request. SLRI will assist in room reservation at Surasammanakarn hotel which locates at the most convenient site nearest to SLRI. Lunch will be provided throughout the program.



      Participation requirement:

     All participants are required to bring their own notebook computers.
